The Safari Pizza Co, Pizzeria And Wine Bar
If you’re ever wandering down 21 The Broadway in Haywards Heath and find yourself torn between a pizza craving and a desire to sip on good wine, The Safari Pizza Co, Pizzeria And Wine Bar is where your journey should pause.
This isn’t your average high-street pizza joint - it’s a bold, flavor-packed experience that brings together the charm of a local wine bar with the creativity of a globally inspired pizzeria. With indoor and outdoor seating, wheelchair accessibility, and options like kerbside pickup, takeaway, dine-in, and delivery, this place is as flexible as it is fabulous.
The real magic starts the moment you glance at the menu. You’ll notice right away that the Honey Badger Pizza Without Meat doesn’t play by the rules. It's a fully vegetarian offering, but with smoky undertones, sweet twists, and fiery hints that would leave even a meat lover questioning their choices. For those who do lean toward carnivorous indulgence, the Meat Lovers and Korean Chicken BBQ Pizza are clear crowd-pleasers - each one a full-throttle punch of bold, saucy satisfaction.
Starters and sides aren’t an afterthought here either. Picture this: a crisp Caprese Salad drizzled with a zingy balsamic reduction or a warm Garlic Bread you’ll want to hoard to yourself. The African Stuffed Peppers add a unique regional flair not commonly found elsewhere in the area, and they’re perfect if you’re after something filling but not dough-based. Want something to nibble on? Grab a board of charcuterie, some olives, or even a portion of biltong - a South African specialty that gives this spot its “Safari” soul.
Now let’s talk drinks. Wine aficionados will be delighted with the extensive wine list, but there’s also craft beer, cocktails, and spirits to explore. Malfy Orange Gin is an especially refreshing highlight - citrusy and crisp, ideal for warm afternoons on the patio. You could opt for a classic glass of Champagne if you're feeling fancy, or a cold cider for a more casual kick. Coffee is also taken seriously here, with double espresso and other barista-crafted brews available.
Of course, no meal is truly complete without dessert - and this is where The Safari Pizza Co delivers a final, irresistible blow. The Ferrero Rocher Cheesecake is a crowd-favorite that tastes as indulgent as it sounds. For something a little different, try the Chocolate Calzone - hot, gooey, and made for sharing (or not, we won’t judge).
What makes this place stand out beyond the food is its laid-back yet elevated vibe. You can swing by for a quick lunch, settle in for a long evening dinner with friends, or pop in solo for a quiet glass of wine and a few small plates. The staff are known for being friendly and attentive, and the pace is relaxed without being slow - ideal for both catch-ups and date nights.
It's also worth noting how inclusive the offerings are. Whether you’re looking for vegan options, vegetarian dishes, or a quick, late-night bite, the menu accommodates a wide range of tastes and dietary needs. And yes, even tap water is served with the same attention as the fancier pours - a subtle but telling detail that speaks to the restaurant's overall hospitality ethos.
Add to that the bonus of happy-hour food, small bites, and a space that works just as well for a casual night out as it does for a mini celebration, and you’ve got a spot that doesn’t just meet expectations - it resets them. Whether you're here for the pizza, the wine, or a bit of both, The Safari Pizza Co, Pizzeria And Wine Bar knows how to make you feel right at home, while still surprising you with flavors from afar.
Reviews
Awesome Afrikan-style restaurant! The vibe is so unique, great attention to details, design . And the pizza was seriously amazing - it was cooked in a wood-fired oven and had the perfect crispy crust with fresh toppings. But honestly, what really made the experience was the staff. They were so friendly and helpful, and they knew the menu inside and out so they could recommend the best dishes. Would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for something different and delicious!
Such a lovely experience! We visited today & they welcomed us & our dog; we went for a nice table in the window. They had a great lunchtime deal - pizza & a drink for £12, or pizza and an alcoholic drink for £15. I went for a vegan pizza, with vegan cheese, mushrooms, olives & sun-dried tomato. It was absolutely delicious, and the waiter (tall, dark-haired guy), couldn't have been lovelier! Thoroughly recommend.
Food and service were amazing! We went for the honey badger pizza and it was delicious!! Would definitely recommend 10/10
Unfortunately, my pizza and dessert arrived lukewarm and messy. I felt the chorizo in the calzone tasted tough and the same goes for the dessert dough. Regarding the dessert, the portions seemed small and in inadequate packaging - 8 pieces of dough covered in caramel in cardboard packaging, normally for £8. There should be something between the cardboard and the caramel covered dough, maybe foil? Thankfully it was all half price today. I think I was unlucky with my order (the World Cup and the freezing weather may have contributed) plus perhaps this kind of food is best eaten at the restaurant. I haven't written them off as most of the reviews are positive. I will give them another go sometime in the future, perhaps this time dining in. EDIT 10/12/23 :- Dined in for the first time, and it was better this time around. I must confess I'm not a big fan of pizza but I really wanted to give this place a try dining in and support a local business. Presentation and service wise, it was top notch and everything tasted fresh. Unfortunately, it didn't change my opinion of pizza, but if you like pizza, then I would definitely give this place a go.
We love this place. Our little one loves their children’s Margherita pizza. Devours it. The pepperoni with jalapeños slaps!! And slaps in a good way!! The dough is light and tasty. The undercarriage just has the right amount of char. It’s not quite Neapolitan. It’s their own style. All reasonably priced. Front of house have been lovely each time we’ve visited. It’s a million miles from the usual mainstream rubbish served up by Dominos Papa Johns Pizza Express etc. We are so happy this pizzeria exists in Haywards Heath.
